I’m a public school parent running for School Board… and here’s why…
My two children attend public school and I want them, and all children, to have the life changing educational opportunity that public education gave me.
I grew up in Arkansas, on a farm. My parents were the hardest working people I’ve ever known. They taught me that with hard work and a good education, you can do just about anything.
After college, I started as an engineer, and I now lead an engineering division of 170 people and over 300 subcontractors. My public school education provided these opportunities.
My family chose to make New Orleans its home and we had a choice to make about our boys’ education. We could have sent them anywhere, but we chose a public school that was the right fit for our boys, and I now volunteer as the parent representative on their charter school board.
It is great that charter schools give families choices. But it also means we must work extra hard to make sure every school gives EVERY child the education they deserve. My brother has cerebral palsy. That experience opened my eyes to how important it is that our schools work for every student, no matter what challenges they’re facing.
I will use my management and fiscal experience to make sure our public school system opens doors and provides opportunities for every child…to be an engineer like me…or a nurse like my mother… or some career we haven’t even thought of yet.
In my job, I’m used to addressing the crisis of power outages. When schools are failing, it might not be as obvious, but it’s just as critical. We can’t afford for our children’s futures to go dark and have their intellectual power and future shut off.
As your next School Board leader I bring
EXPERIENCE: leading big teams and successfully managing complex projects and budgets.
FINANCE AND FUNDING: including a record of developing and funding community education initiatives, scholarships and educational improvements.
PARENTAL PERSPECTIVE: to insure our children’s success is the focus every day.
Early Childhood through High School
Since I was young, my eyes have always been on the prize. I started my own business selling firewood while still in high school. I earned a college scholarship not only for academic excellence but for my leadership positions in the Boy Scouts, on my school football team, and by landing a first place win with Future Farmers of America.
- Life Scout in Boy Scouts of America
- High School National Academic Award
- Future Farmers of America Dairy Judging – 1st Place in State
- Received a 2-year scholarship to University of Arkansas
- Business Owner, sold firewood
- Helped Manage my Father’s HVAC business
College Achievement
I could not have pursued further education without the help of academic scholarships. I soon learned my love for mechanical engineering would be my future.
- Masters in Business Administration, Bellevue University
- Bachelors in Mechanical Engineering, Louisiana Tech University
- Attended University of Arkansas at Monticello
Professional Career
I became a Professional Engineer in 2004 and joined Entergy 24 years ago, working my way up to leading a team of 170 employees and 300 contractors and managing a capital budget of $6 billion. I was one of twenty people selected for Power UP, an executive leadership program.
Community Leadership
While in Arkansas, I worked on initiatives to provide affordable and equitable housing, securing corporate donations and serving on the oversight board. Now that I am a dad, I get excited working with and mentoring the next generation.
